Tips for Flat Hunting in London

London is one of the greatest cities in the world. If you want to live in London, then you will be exposed to a daily dose of the greatest culture and people in the world. The downside to this is that property prices and the overall cost of living is extremely high. Flats in London are among some of the most expensive in the world. This follows from the basic law of supply and demand. With a large number of people who want to live in London – the price must rise in order for the supply and demand to balance out.

However, this doesn’t mean that you should abandon your dream of renting or even owning a flat. Property in London can certainly be found if you are willing to do a little work or to use a little creativity. Here are a few tips.

1. Roommates.

Some people love roommates, and some people absolutely abhor them. However, there are a large number of flats in London that are shared by two or more people in order to keep costs down. Many of these people are students or young professionals. When you split your rent and your bills across many people, your costs of living can go down dramatically. Living in London is certainly affordable if you follow this strategy.

2. Be Vigilant.

It’s unlikely that you’re going to be able to spot the best deals on flats in London if you’re not actively looking for them. Make sure to gain access to local flat guides and make use the Internet to find deals on sites like Craigslist. Opportunity comes to those who are looking for it, so make sure that you stay vigilant.

3. Visit as Many Flats as Possible.

Even after you’ve found a few flats in London that you like, always do your research. Visit the flats and meet with the landlords. You don’t want to sign a contract and get involved in a long-term relationship with people who you end up not particularly meshing with. You might also find that the flat isn’t quite as large or spacious as it was described, or maybe the neighbours are too noisy.
